The 13th National Parliament election is going to be held in the first half of February. And the BNP has started its national election-oriented activities in full swing. Now, the party is giving utmost importance to deciding on a single candidate. The party wants to finalize the single candidate next month, i.e. in October.
The issue was discussed at a meeting of the BNP National Standing Committee at the Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan on Tuesday night. The issue of giving up seats to allies also came up for discussion in that meeting. They said that the responsible leaders are working on it.
A BNP source said that the seats being given to allied political parties may also be verbally announced in October.
According to BNP sources, preparations are underway to finalize single candidates for at least 70 percent of the 300 seats ahead of schedule. The work of finalizing single candidates for most of the seats is almost at its final stage.
The party’s high command already has information from multiple surveys. Acting chairman Tarique Rahman has also taken a list of potential candidates for all seats through the organizational team. The acting chairman also held a long virtual meeting with the organizing and co-organizing secretaries regarding the list.
Leaders said that the party is not thinking much about candidacy for 150 out of 300 parliamentary seats. The high command believes that there are no problems or complications with party candidacy in these seats. The candidates for these seats have been roughly determined. The BNP is actively finalizing the candidates for the remaining seats. The party is considering leaving some of these seats for allies of the simultaneous anti-fascist movement.
