The government is going to make radical changes to the driving license system. A minimum of 60 hours of training is being made mandatory across the country to produce skilled drivers. In addition, the authority to issue driving licenses will no longer be in the hands of BRTA.
Road Transport and Bridges Advisor Muhammad Fauzul Kabir Khan gave this information at a program organized on the occasion of National Road Safety Day-2025 on Wednesday (October 22) morning.
He said there will be a radical change in the driving license system. Its main function will be training and the related committees for that will be eliminated. And 60 hours of training will be required to get a license. Along with that, training allowance will also be given. Trained drivers are needed to make the roads safe and free from traffic jams.
The advisor said that in addition to the training centers of the Bangladesh Army and Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC), this training will have to be taken from private training centers designated by the government. And driving licenses will be issued from those institutions.
He said, there will be two types of training. To understand road signs, to be able to control the car properly. Physical fitness, dope tests will be conducted. If possible, we will start training within the next month.
Special Assistant to the Principal Advisor to the Ministry of Home Affairs Md. Khoda Baksh Chowdhury was the special guest at the event.
The event, held at the auditorium of the Road Building in Hatirjheel in the capital, was attended by Bridge Secretary Md. Abdur Rouf, Chief Engineer of the Roads and Highways Department Syed Moinul Hasan, BRTA Chairman Abu Momtaz Saad Uddin Ahmed, General Secretary of Dhaka Road Transport Owners Association Saiful Alam and many others.
