The BNP Secretary Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport after coming back from Singapore for his medical treatment that Jamaat created the PR Strategy to pressure the BNP. He made remarks that the protest marches of Jamaat-e-Islami are not necessary, it is just to create pressure on the other parties.
Fakhrul questioned whether the street programmes are effective for our country or if it will create problems in our country. He also said after the Awami league fell, they did not take to street programmes on any problems. They discuss the problem and try to fix this. It is unnecessary to protest on the streets and harmful for every common people in our country and this strategy Jammat has taken for giving pressure to BNP.
Regarding BNP’s position on proportional representation, he stated that there is “no necessity for PR in Bangladesh,” pointing out that discussions about the July Charter are still in progress and the party has previously achieved agreement on many issues. He further mentioned that any amendments to the constitution should be made through a parliament that the people have elected.
Fakhrul also emphasized that BNP does not advocate for the prohibition of any political parties, including the 14-party alliance or Jatiya Party.
When questioned about participating in the upcoming UN General Assembly session in the United States, he expressed uncertainty about his role and mentioned that he would consult with Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus. “The enhancement of the country’s democracy and overall progress will continue to be our focus,” he remarked.
Fakhrul told about the foreign remarks, All the decisions of our country were taken by us independently. At this crisis moment our country needs to make decisions for our country to grow. He said there is no need for others to make decisions.
