The Bangladesh High Commission said the police were in constant contact and assured of “full security” during the advisor’s visit.
Earlier, during an official visit to New York, Advisor Mahfuz Alam was the victim of a similar incident. According to multiple sources, protesters threw eggs and bottles at an event organized at the Consulate General of Bangladesh. They broke the glass door. After this incident, the mission requested formal action from the local authorities, including the local office of the State Department.
Shafiqul Alam, the press secretary to the chief advisor, condemned the incident and said, “The government condemns this latest attack with the same firmness as we did after the incident in New York. The government, the people of Bangladesh, and the authorities of both host countries stand for civilization, while the terrorists live in a world of barbarity and intimidation”.
The government statement also said that attacking a diplomatic vehicle and attempting to disrupt its movement is not only a reckless act, but also violates the international etiquette of maintaining dialogue between nations. The Metropolitan Police’s immediate response has been commended. Continued cooperation has been called for in identifying the perpetrators and bringing them to justice.
The statement called on the diaspora community, universities and organizing organizations to “stand firm in favor of civilized discussion. Let the discussion be difficult, but ensure the safety of speakers, listeners and peaceful protesters.”
The government also said, “The true evaluation of a movement is not based on how loud or violent it is. Rather, it is evaluated through discipline, dignity, and responsibility.”
